The Three Stooges

The Three Stooges were a comedy trio consisting of actors Moe Howard, Larry Fine, and Curly Howard (later replaced by Shemp Howard and then by Joe Besser, with Joe DeRita joining for the later films). They were known for their slapstick comedy and physical humor, which often involved exaggerated, violent antics and absurd situations.

The group originated in vaudeville in the 1920s and achieved widespread fame through their short films produced by Columbia Pictures from the 1930s to the 1950s. Moe Howard, the leader of the group, played the authoritarian character who often delivered punishment to the others. Larry Fine portrayed the dim-witted yet lovable character, while Curly Howard (and later Shemp) played the role of the childlike and highly energetic member of the trio.

Their comedy shorts, which usually lasted around 15-20 minutes each, featured a mix of physical comedy, wordplay, and sight gags. Some of their most famous routines included eye pokes, head slaps, and intricate choreography in chaotic situations.

Despite facing criticism over the years for their violent and sometimes politically incorrect humor, The Three Stooges remain one of the most enduring and influential comedy acts in American history, with their films continuing to entertain audiences worldwide through television reruns and home video releases.
