The Onion Movie

The Onion Movie is a 2008 satirical comedy film based on the style and humor of The Onion, a popular parody news outlet. The movie is presented in a sketch-comedy format, with absurd, over-the-top news segments, fake commercials, and outrageous social commentary.

The loose plot centers around Onion News Network anchor Norm Archer (played by Len Cariou), who grows increasingly frustrated with his network’s decline into sensationalism and corporate influence, particularly the constant promotion of a fictional pop star named Melissa Cherry (a parody of Britney Spears-like pop culture figures).

The film takes aim at media sensationalism, corporate greed, and American culture with dark, often politically incorrect humor. It was initially shelved after being filmed in 2003 but was later released direct-to-DVD in 2008. Despite its cult following, it received mixed reviews for its hit-or-miss sketches and uneven pacing.
