Chico Marx was an American comedian, musician, and one of the famous Marx Brothers, a comedy group consisting of Chico, Groucho, Harpo, and Zeppo Marx. Born Leonard Marx in 1887, he was known for his distinctive Italian accent, which he adopted as part of his comedic persona on stage and screen. Chico often played the role of a smooth-talking con artist, helping the Marx Brothers’ routines stand out with his fast-talking wit and charm.
He was also an accomplished pianist, using his musical talent as a key part of his comedy. His unique “shooting” piano style—often playing with his fingers in a gun shape—became one of his trademarks. Chico, alongside his brothers, starred in classic films such as Duck Soup (1933), A Night at the Opera (1935), and Animal Crackers (1930).
